881,509. Valves. CLARK EQUIPMENT CO. Nov. 9, 1959 [Nov. 10, 1958], No. 37838/59. Class 135. [Also in Group XXXI] A pressure regulating valve for automatically reducing the pressure of fluid supplied to forward and reverse transmission clutches in a fork lift truck in response to application of the brakes comprises a spool 118 which is normally held by a spring 146 in the position shown in which pressure fluid can pass from an inlet 12 to an outlet 14 leading to the clutches through a selector valve by which either clutch is selected. A piston 116 attached to a rod 136 which passes freely through the spool and engages a spring abutment 144 is connected with the master cylinder of the brakes so that when the latter are applied the piston 116 is moved to the right to cause the loading of the spring 146 to be removed from the spool whereafter the pressure in the outlet is determined by balance of the spool between the outlet pressure in a chamber 154 and a spring 148 between the abutment 144 and the spool. As the braking pressure is increased the force of the spring 148 on the spool is relaxed so that the outlet pressure is reduced. The connection between the brake pedal and the rod 136 may be mechanical. Specification 799,817 is referred to.
