Vacuum tubes. - In electron discharge devices, such as highvoltage rectifiers, having a filamentary cathode and a surrounding anode, an insulator is mounted within the anode and provided with means engaging the filament at a point intermediate its ends to prevent vibration of the filament and contact between the filament and anode. A long anode cylinder may be supported from one end of the glass envelope and a glass stem a,t the other end may carry tungsten leads 5 and a tungsten or molybdenum rod 7, the V-shaped filament 3 being connected to the leads 5 and supported at its bight by a hook at the end of the rod 7. An alumina magnesia or other insulator 8 with embedded wire guides 9 for the filament is slidably fitted to the rod 7 and maintained in position by buttons 10, 11 welded to the rod 7.
