Hydrogenation, destructive. - The process of hydrogenating carbonaceous materials in presence of added combined nitrogen as described in the parent Specification and in Specification 247,587 is applied to the treatment of tar-like products obtained from carbonaceous solids by destructive hydrogenation, to fractions, components, distillation residues, or conversion products of tars, to lignite wax or similar materials, to mixtures of tar with coal or of coal or tar with tarry products of the destructive hydrogenation of the above materials, or of tar with similar liquid diluents.
