Abstract
257,910. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Sept. 2, 1925, [Convention date]. Grant of Patent refused. Hydrogenation, destructive.-In the production of liquid hydrocarbons from coals, tars, mineral oils, resins, asphalts, and other carbonaceous materials by treatment at high temperatures and pressures over 50 atmospheres with hydrogen or gases containing hydrogen, th,e formation of coke is prevented by using streaming gases and starting with wet coal &c. or adding water during the hydrogenation. In an example. brown coal producer tar containing 40-50 per cent of water is pumped into a high pressure reaction vessel in which it is vaporized or atomized and intimately mixed with hydrogen, and then at 200 atmospheres and 450-500‹ C. is passed over a catalyst containing molybdenum. The issuing vapours are condensed, and benzine and other petroleum hydrocarbons separated from the water. Specifications 182,852 and 247,582 are referred to.
