Hydrocarbons, cracking.-In converting heavy 'into lighter oils by the process described in Specifications 20470/13 and 12653/14 in which the oil vapours are carried from a still by a current of steam or gas into a cracking retort containing a heated catalyst, a small proportion of ammonia or a mixture of ammonia and hydrogen is introduced into the retort. Specification 108,019 also is referred to.
