Abstract

208,569. Auld, S. J. M. July 20, 1922. Hydrocarbons, cracking.-Vapours of highboiling hydrocarbons are passed through a highly absorbent substance, such as coconut-shell charcoal, rendered highly absorbent by treatment with superheated steam, ferric oxide gel, or silica gel heated to 400-700‹ C. Hydrogen or a gas containing hydrogen may be passed with the vapours. The process may be carried out under pressures 10-50 per sq. in. The absorbent substance may be regenerated by passing steam or air over it or by periodically reducing the pressure during the process.
