Abstract

In refining hydrocarbons containing unsaturated compounds by a first stage hydrogenation at temperatures below 300 DEG C. followed by a second stage treatment at higher temperatures and pressures as described in the parent Specification, the second stage is carried out under atmospheric or low pressures up to 20 atmos. A fraction boiling between 100--200 DEG C. of the products obtained by cracking gas oil at 600 DEG C. is led with hydrogen under 50 atmospheres pressure and at 200 DEG C. over tungsten di-sulphide. The products are led with hydrogen at atmospheric pressure and at 400 DEG C. over a catalyst produced by treating nickel molybdate with hydrogen sulphide at 450 DEG C.
