Abstract

Gas oil or other petroleum fractions are treated at temperatures above 500 DEG C., for example 530 DEG C., under a pressure of about 50 atmospheres with coke oven gas or other gases containing hydrogen for such a length of time, for example, half an hour, that a large yield of gas oil suitable for enriching blue water gas is obtained, and at the same time, the liquid products obtained consist mainly of aromatic hydrocarbons. The process may be carried out in a closed vessel or in a pipe still and in the presence of a hydrogenating catalyst.
