Abstract
572,423. Purifying gases. SAVARY, J. Sept. 13, 1943, No. 14975. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1942. [Class 1 (i)] The gum forming constituents in a hydrocarbon gas are removed by contact with liquid hydrocarbons. In an example the hydrocarbon gas is passed into a purifier 2 which may be filled with a porous or semi-activated substance 8, wherein the hydro-: carbon vapours and gum forming constituents are condensed. When the purifier 2 is saturated with condensed hydrocarbons, the vapours pass into an adsorber 5 containing an adsorbent 9, but the gum forming constituents are retained by the condensed hydrocarbons in the purifier, the clean gas passing to the point of use through pipe 7. The adsorbent 9 may be cleaned of adsorbed hydrocarbons by passing steam or hot gas through the pipes 10 and 12 after closing valves 4 and 6. When substance 8 is saturated with gum forming constituents it is removed and replaced by fresh material. If several adsorbers are employed one may be used as a purifier in which case it is not cleaned until the adsorbent is saturated with gum forming constituents.
