Abstract

312,294. Bird, R. A. Feb. 20, 1928. Exhaust, dealing with; silencers.-Exhaust gases are purified by being passed through a casing 1 containing gas-absorbing material such as activated charcoal with or without the addition of potassium or sodium permanganate. The gas is distributed by an inclined perforated plate 3, and' a filtering pad 5 is provided near the outlet end. The cover plate 2 is readily removable to permit of removing and inserting the purifying material. The gases may be passed through a silencer either before or after passing through the purifier or, in a modification, a valve may be provided to direct the gases either through the purifier or the silencer. According to the Provisional Specification, the gases are distributed by a small fan. Specification 24349/99, [Class 122, Steam engines], is referred to.
