Abstract

1,199,782. Treating charge and exhaust gases. P.A.W. JURSCHEWITZ. Oct. 19, 1967 [Sept.26, 1967], No.47641/67. Heading F1B. [Also in Division B1] Combustible mixture flowing to an engine is treated so as to reduce the amount of carbon in the exhaust gases, which gases are passed through a filtering means to remove the carbon. The combustible mixture is passed through a means which causes turbulence or which introduces extra air thereto, thereby improving its combustibility and causing a reduction of carbon in the exhaust. The exhaust filter 10 Fig. 2 comprises a perforated metal cylinder 16 surrounded by asbestos wool or fibreglass which may be melted with a silicon solution. The gases escape through a perforated end cap 18. In Fig. 3 the exhaust pipe 24 discharges intc a liquid 20, e.g. a silicon emulsion, and the filtered gas escapes through a layer of sponge 32, which removes droplets, and through perforations 34.
