Abstract
513,699. Ventilation. BROWNE, R. J. April 13, 1938, Nos. 11415 and 19606. [Class 137] Impurities such as toxic gases are removed from air which is drawn by a fan 17 through an inlet duct 12 and passed through a 'number of filters 18-21 the air if required also passing through an ozonizer 23 before entering the enclosure. The filters and fan are enclosed in a casing 13 which has a duct 26 by-passing the filters, valves 27, 28 and 29 being provided to cut out the filters if desired and to pass the air directly into the enclosure. The ozonizer may be removed. The filters 18 to 21 consist respectively of a fibrous pad for removing fumes and smokes, a layer of activated charcoal, a filter of corrugated cellulose treated with powders such as sulphur, resin, ebonite or talc and cuprene, and a chemical filter using soda-lime or alkaline permanganate. As applied to a gas proof underground chamber 30, Fig 2, the device 13 is provided with pipes 32, 35 terminating above ground in down turned portions 33, 36,' the pipes 32, 35 preferably being formed from a single vertical pipe with a longitudinal partition.
