Abstract
<PICT:0737665/III/1> A gas-purifying apparatus comprises superposed layers 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 of charcoal separated by springs 18 and corrugated mesh 19 to provide spaces 16, 10, 17, 13 and mounted in a two-part casing formed by flanged castings A, B, C, D, E secured by bolts 1 and having an inlet 5 leading to a vertical manifold 14, in one part of the casing and an outlet 6 leading from a vertical manifold 15 in the other part of the casing; inlet gas from manifold 14 and spaces 10, 13 traversing the layers 8, 9, 11, 12 to gain access to spaces 16, 17, the manifold 15 and outlet 6. Centrally apertured baffle plates 22, 23 equalize the distribution of inlet and outlet gas, and the charcoal is retained by perforated plates 20.
