Abstract

894,761. Gas filters. BERZ, M., and BERZ, W. Dec. 14, 1960, No. 43028/60. Addition to 838,225. Class 8(2). A dust-laden gas filter comprises a vertical casing 1 divided into an upper dust laden gas inlet chamber 3 and a lower clean gas outlet chanber 4 by a horizonta frame 2 resiliently supported on springs 5 secured to the casing wall and sealed thereto by a flexible diaphragm 7; the frame 2 having at least two layers of granular filter medium 10, 11 supported by foraminous screens 8, 9 and being adapted for vibration by means 6. In operation heavy particles are collected in a hopper 15 located below the dust-laden gas inlet 14 and during a filter cleaning period a valve 19 in the clean gas outlet duct 18 is closed by a control device 20 and dust shaken from the filter layers 10, 11 is collected in a hopper 17. Filter cleaning is assisted by scavenging air admitted to the upper inlet chamber 3 through a valved duct 22 and is exhausted through an aperture 24 and duct 26 leading to the dust-laden gas inlet 14.
