A gas filtering plant comprises a plurality of preformed chamber units assembled side by side as shown in Fig. 3 and connected together by open frames 3, Fig. 2, each unit comprising a hopper 6 surmounted by a frame having a closed top, front and rear and also at those parts of the sides not engaged by the connecting frames 3, each said frame being partitioned by a closed vertical frame i, k, l, m, Fig. 1, and by a closed horizontal frame n, r, p, o, thereby providing a horizontal conduit bounded by corners n, o, m, e and r, p, l, f, and forming a section of the dust-laden gas inlet duct of the assembly, and providing a vertical filtering compartment bounded by corners m, l, g, h, and i, k, c, d, and also providing a horizontal conduit bounded by corners b, k, p, r, and a, i, o, m and forming a section of the filtered gas outlet duct of the assembly. In operation dust-laden gas from a cupola 15 is drawn by a fan 17 through a main inlet 14 into the inlet compartment of the first chamber unit whereupon a portion of said gas passes downwards through an open valve 1, Fig. 4 into the first hopper 6, then upwardly and through open-bottomed outwardflow filter bags 10 within the filtering compartment, and filtered gas traverses a valved duct 2 connecting the top i, k, c, d of the filtering compartment with the top a, b, k, i of the clean gas duct ; the remainder of the dust-laden gas passing to the inlet ducts of next chamber unit in succession. The filter bags 10 of each unit are cleaned sequentially by known shaking means 11, 13 connected by a link 12 to the valve 1 to close the same and isolate the filtering compartment of the unit being cleaned from the remaining units.
