[Class 7 (ii).] A combined filter and silencer for the air supplied to internal-combustion engines, compressors &c. wherein a filtering unit 9 of starshaped form of cellular, textile or similar sounddeadening nature is enclosed in a casing 3 pro-' vided with inlet. 5 and outlet 2. The inlet pipe 5 comprises a long pipe, the length being about 6¢ diameters. A funnel &c. 13 may be provided, when used for an internal-combustion engine, and arranged so that an increased speed of the car enables more air to enter the cylinders. When used for silencing the exhaust of pneumatic tools &c., the outlet pipe is made comparatively long. Specifications 297,510, 326,047, and 329,099, [all in Class 8 (ii), Air and gases, Treating &c.], are referred to.
