Abstract

<PICT:0477657/III/1> <PICT:0477657/III/2> Apparatus for the recovery of gases by adsorption comprises two superposed beds of adsorbent contained within a single adsorber shell and connected in parallel. Fig. 2 shows an embodiment adapted for the conversion of an existing adsorber without alteration of the external connections. The partition D divides the shell into two parts the upper one containing an adsorbent layer B of half the usual thickness; the lower containing a similar layer A and also a heat-accumulator C. The layers are connected in parallel by two crossed forked passages a, b, Fig. 3, traversing the partition D. During adsorption the gases enter at 1 and leave at 2; the regenerating steam enters at 3 and leaves at 1. In another modification the partition D is traversed by only one passage connecting the two chambers, and separate pipes for the exit of treated gas and the entry of steam are provided for each chamber.
