Abstract

<PICT:0415801/III/1> In adsorption apparatus for the separation of gaseous mixtures a gyratory motion is imparted to the gas on its admission to the filter. The adsorption medium is preferably arranged in an annular container c and the gas is admitted to the space d around and above this container by way of an inlet casing m which is in the form of an involute spiral and imparts a gyratory motion to the gas stream. The walls of the container c are perforated to allow passage of gas and the outer wall 2 may be fluted to increase its surface. The purified gas leaves the apparatus through the outlet g. To regenerate the adsorbent steam or other vapour is admitted by the perforated pipe q and the expelled substances are withdrawn through the U-tube o which is provided with a water seal enabling the apparatus to work under 10--12" water pressure. In a modified apparatus several annular adsorbent-containers are arranged within a single outer casing.
