Abstract

<PICT:0871242/III/1> A continuous adsorption apparatus for adsorbing vapours from gases or materials from liquids comprises at least two beds of adsorbent material arranged in chambers having a duct communicating with each of said chambers via inlet and outlet ports in the duct, a valve assembly inserted for rotation within said duct for connecting the ports associated with at least one chamber to an inlet and outlet conduits for a stripping medium (which may be gas or liquid), and an inlet and outlet in said duct for a fluid containing an adsorbate for the other chamber, the arrangement being such that each chamber in turn can be connected to the inlet and outlet conduits for the stripping medium while the fluid passes through the remaining chamber or chambers. As shown, vapour laden gas enters through the bottom of the duct 15 and regeneration gas enters through the fixed pipe 29 mounted above the duct 15 by the bracket 40. With the closure members 20 and 21 in the position shown, vapour laden gas enters the bottom of duct 15, passes through the port 19 into the adsorbent bed 13 whence it flows through the port 18 to the outlet 43 for the stripped gas. Regeneration gas enters through the pipe 29 passes through tube 23 to the T-pipe 22 whence it flows through the port 16, percolates through the adsorbent bed 11, out of port 17 whence vapour laden regeneration gas passes through T-pipe 26, and elbow 31 at the outlet 32. Thus whilst the vapour laden gas is being treated in the adsorbent bed 13, the adsorbent bed 11 is being regenerated. At the conclusion of this treatment the tubes 23 and 27 are rotated by means of lever 34 or automatically through an angle of 90 degrees, and the ports 16, 17 and 18, 19 changed over to bring in the opposite beds. The space 50 below the adsorbent beds, is available for the installation of auxiliary equipment.
