Abstract
214,940. Linnmann, G. April 24, 1923, [Convention date]. Mineral and tar oils.- A process of obtaining hydrocarbons such as benzine from materials such as tar, fatty residues or oily residues obtained in the manufacture of benzine, benzol, lacquer, dyes, turpentine, or linoleum, consists in vaporizing the material and passing the vapours into contact with heated metal in the presence of hydrogen concurrently obtained by reaction between steam and metal in a separate retort whereby catalytic action is effected. Steam is superheated in a pipe 10 and passed through iron turnings in a retort 4, the resulting hydrogen entering a retort 3 having a metal pan 5 containing the material under treatment the vapours from which react with the hydrogen in presence of the metal of the pan. The produce are led either directly to a receiver 19 by a pipe 21 or by a pipe 17 through a retort 2 containing iron turnings to assist the reaction before the products pass by a pipe 18 to the receiver. A filter 22 is provided, the upper part being filled with a porous mass 24 and the lower part with iron turnings 23.
