272,526. Trautmann, J. June 11, 1926, [Convention, date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Hydrogenation, destructive. - In the destructive hydrogenation of coal, the coal is distilled in ordinary retorts, and the gases and vapours, preferably after removal of sulphur compounds or other undesirable constituents, are treated in a separate chamber with the hydrogenating gas, usually in presence of catalysts. Catalysts specified are zinc, nickel, and tin; they may be added as powder or vapour to the gases &c. prior to or after entry to the hydrogenizing chamber. Gases promoting hydrogenation, e.g. superheated steam, water-gas, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen, or other substances may be added to the gases and vapours, preferably in the retort itself. The residual coke may be used for producing the watergas, the generator being arranged advantageously directly below the retort forming part thereof. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 221,559.
