Abstract
Refined hydrogenated products are obtained from heavy mineral oils, napthalene, anthracene, and other coal distillates, coal slimes, and other heavy hydrocarbons by heating the oil &c. in presence of hydrogen under pressure and of sodium, potassium, rubidium, or caesium to any temperature above 100 DEG C. sufficient to cause simultaneous desulphurization and hydrogenation. Fullers earth, diatomite, charcoal, coke ash, magnesium oxide, iron powder, or other substances serving to distribute the mixture and accelerate the reaction may be present. In an example 50 kg. of dried Silesian coal, 50 kg. of tar oil, and 3 kg. of sodium are heated to 430 DEG C. under a hydrogen pressure maintained at 100 atmospheres. After separation of the 3.6 kg. of coal remaining the liquid is fractionally distilled. In other examples pure decahydro-anthracene and pure tetrahydronaphthalene respectively are obtained by treating crude anthracene and crude napthalene with 3 per cent of sodium and 3 per cent of Fuller's earth at 300 DEG C. in presence of hydrogen at 100 atmosphere, hydrogen being forced in until reaction ceases.ALSO:Refined hydrogenized products are obtained from naphthalene and anthracene, and other heavy hydrocarbons by heating the naphthalene &c. in presence of hydrogen under pressure and of sodium, potassium, rubidium, or caesium to any temperature above 100 DEG C. sufficient to cause simultaneous desulphurization and hydrogenation. Fuller's earth, diatomite, charcoal, coke ash, magnesium oxide, iron powder or other substances serving to distribute the mixture and accelerate the reaction may be present. In an example pure decahydride of anthracene and pure tetrahydronaphthalene respectively are obtained by treating crude anthracene and crude naphthalene with 3 per cent of sodium and 3 per cent of fuller's earth at 300 DEG C. in presence of hydrogen at 100 atmospheres, hydrogen being forced in until reaction ceases.ALSO:Refined hydrogenized products are obtained from heavy mineral oils, naphthalene, anthracene and other coal slimes, and other heavy hydrocarbons by heating the oil &c. in presence of hydrogen under pressure and of sodium, potassium, rubidium, or caesium, to any temperature above 100 DEG C. sufficient to cause simultaneous desulphurization and hydrogenation. Fullers' earth, diatomite, charcoal, coke ash, magnesium oxide, iron powder or other substances serving to distribute the mixture and accelerate the reaction may be present. In an example, 50 kilograms of dried Silesian coal, 50 kilograms of tar oil, and 3 kilograms of sodium are heated to 430 DEG C. under a hydrogen pressure maintained at 100 atmospheres. After separation of the 3-6 kilograms of coal remaining the liquid is fractionally distilled into motor spirit and heating oil. In other examples pure decahydride of anthracene and pure tetrahydronaphthalene respectively are obtained by treating crude anthracene and crude naphthalene with 3 per cent of sodium and 3 per cent of Fullers' earth at 300 DEG C. in presence of hydrogen at 100 atmospheres, hydrogen being forced in until reaction ceases.
