216,882. Internationale Bergin-Compagnie voor Olie en Kolen-Chemie. May 31, 1923, [Convention date]. Hydrogenation, destructive.-In cracking and' hydrogenating hydrocarbon oils which may be mixed with carbon by heating under pressure with hydrogen, the gases which pass from the reaction chambers are decomposed to obtain hydrogen which is returned to the reaction chamber. The gases may be admixed with coke oven gas, illuminating gas &c. prior to treatment. Vapours from a reaction vessel 1, supplied with hydrogen by a pipe 4 and with oil from a pipe 3, pass through a condenser 7 and thence to a washer 5 in which they are treated with petroleum oils, tar oils &c. The residual hydrogen passes into the pipe 4. Methane &c. evolved on releasing the pressure on the solution obtained in the washer passes by a pipe 9 to a cracking-apparatus 10 for decomposing methane, ethylene &c. to yield hydrogen. The cracked gas may be passed through a second washer 12 and pipe 13 into the pipe 4. Coke oven gas &c. may be added through a pipe 15 to the gases in the washer 5, or through a pipe 16 to the cracking-apparatus 10.
