Abstract
272,721. Stevens & Co. (1914), Ltd., A. J., and Willson, H. C. Aug. 28, 1926. Transformers; condensers.-A transformer for use as a coupling unit in thermionic amplifiers, particularly those used in the intermediate frequency stage of wireless receiving sets of the supersonic heterodyne type, is structurally combined with one cr more variable condensers connected across one or both of the primary and secondary windings. The windings 5, 6 are disposed between spaced rings 7, 8, 9 held together by a flanged tube 4. A screwed stem 1 secures together the transformer and a condenser comprising a fixed plate 13 centrally dished to engage within a spacing tube 12, and a movable plate 16 carried by an insulating nut 17 on the stem 1. Variation of capacity is effected by rotating the nut 17 to effect axial movement of the plate 16, a lock nut 18 being provided. A sheet of mica 24 is disposed between the plates, and connections to the unit are made at 19, 20, 25, 26, the stem 1 completing the parallel connection of the condenser with the secondary winding 6.
