Abstract

477,362. Condensers ; resistances. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., DAVIS, N. E., GREEN, E., and HALL, A. W. June 26, 1936, No. 17838. Addition to 434,821. [Class 37] [Also in Group XL] The construction details of the short-wave radio transmitter described in the parent Specification are modified in various respects. (1) The secondary coil 111a of the output coupling is of rectangular spiral form and of metal tubing, and is associated with two series condensers of cylindrical form as shown in plan in Fig. 3. The inner members 111b, 111c of the condensers are linked together by an insulating yoke 411 attached to a plate 511 which slides in guides 611 on the framework, so that the inner members may be jointly adjusted relatively to the outer cylinders 211b, 211c which are secured to the frame. The whole unit is adjustably carried on an earthed member 911. (2) The anode circuit coil of the push-pull pair of transmitting-valves is divided centrally and a pair of condensers, arranged as shown in part sectional elevation in Fig. 6, are interposed. Two coaxial hollow cylinders MT1, MT2 spaced a small distance apart are surrounded by a mica dielectric LM which is held by a metal clamp MBC forming the common central member of the two condensers. The outer end of each cylinder is fixed to or formed integrally with a quadrant member MM2 each of which cooperated with a clamping-band MMC1 and screw MMS1 to receive the vertical ends of the divided anode coil. (3) The valves V1, V2, Fig. 9, are mounted on the outer sides of two metal cooling-boxes CB, CB2 by short fluidflow metal pipes FMP. Between the boxes CB1, CB2 is slidably mounted a metal structure BXC which thus forms the anode tuning- condenser. The neutralizing condensers are formed by electrodes EX adjustable in relation to the boxes CB1, CB2. (4) Losses are introduced in the input circuit, by shunting the primary coil of the input coupling by a bank of series-connected resistance units. Each unit comprises a hollow cylinder, and the units are arranged in a ring with their axes parallel, and are cooled by blowing air through them.
