[Class 38 (ii)] [See also Groups XXXVI and XL] In a high-frequency coil having a pot-type or other hollow core b1 made in two parts, the parts are held together by a sleeve c1 of low loss material within which a further core part d1 of high frequency iron is arranged so as to be capable of displacement. The part dl may be in screw-threaded engagement with the sleeve and may be slotted at both ends for adjustment by a screw-driver. A pair of such coils forming an intermediate frequency transformer may be mounted in a common screening casing f either side by side, Fig. 4, or end to end, Fig. 5, the core parts dl, d2 forming balancing means. The two coil units may be adjustably mounted with respect to each other for varying the coupling between them. The coupling may also be varied by providing movable screens of magnetic or non-magnetic or partly magnetic and partly non-magnetic material between the coils. In the arrangement of Fig. 4, a magnetic ring k with a helical upper edge is mounted within a non-magnetic cylinder i surrounding the coil b2, and the coupling between the two coils is varied by rotating the parts i, k so as to vary the proportion of magnetic and non-magnetic material between them. The parallel condensers e associated with the coils are mounted below an insulating base a upon which the coils are mounted.
