522,276. Current and voltage measurements ; compensating instruments for temperature errors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO.. Ltd., TURNER, H. C., and TOMLIN, G. M. Dec. 5, 1938, No. 35387. [Class 37] An instrument for measuring current of high frequency over a considerable range of frequency has the secondary winding of the current transformer formed as an even number of separate substantially similar coils arranged to be connected in opposition to a D.C. instrument through rectifiers. The transformer core is formed in two parts 1, 2 carrying similar coils 3, 4. The parts 1, 2 abut against each other and surround an insulating bush through which passes the conductor 5 forming the primary winding. The windings 3, 4 are connected through dry plate rectifiers 6, 7 to a D.C. measuring instrument 8 so as to oppose each other. A variable resistance 9 is included in the circuit of the winding 4. Damping resistances 10, 11 are connected across the coils 3, 4 and condensers 12, 13 are connected across the instrument 8 to by-pass high-frequency currents. The coils 3, 4 are arranged to give their maximum response at the middle of the frequency range over which the instrument is to operate, tuning condensers being connected across the coils if necessary. The core of the transformer may be laminated or may be a dust iron core. Temperature compensation is effected owing to the rectifiers 6, 7 being in opposition.
