Abstract

256,998. Wilcockson, J., and Roberts, H. W. March 21, 1925. Thermionic amplifiers and detectors. - The aerial coil 5 is connected through a biasing battery to the grid of the first valve C and to earth, and also to a tuned loop circuit 9, which applies (1) aerial voltage variations, and (2) rectified voltages derived from the output coil 12 of the rectifying valve C, across the plate and grid of the second valve D, which carries no direct plate voltage from the battery 13. A secondary winding 11 coupled to the primary coil 9 is connected, in series with the primary 14 of the low-frequency transformer, between the plate and filament of the third valve E. The ratio of the windings of the coils 9 and 11 is 64 to 89, and this is stated to be an essential factor to the operation of the circuit. The phones T are tapped off from the plate circuit of the low-frequency amplifier E as shown, and are connected back through a loop. circuit to the coil 12 and the high-tension battery 13.
