Abstract

310,764. Edison Swan Electric Co., Ltd., and Soundy, L. H. Jan. 24, 1928. Thermionic detectors and amplifiers.-In a wireless receiver the incoming oscillations are supplied in parallel to the input circuits L1, L2 of a pair of detecting-valves V1, V2' which are so arranged that, when a train of oscillations produces an increase in the output current of one valve, the same train produces a decrease in the output current of the other valve, and the outputs from the valves are separately amplified and then combined to affect an indicator I. The amplified output is combined by a centre-tapped transformer T or a sound reproducer with a centre-tapped winding, and the centre-tapping is connected to the source which supplies anode current to amplifying-valves V3, V4. The aerial circuit L3 is coupled to two separate tuned input circuits, one associated with each detecting-valve, or to a single tuned input circuit common to the detecting-valves (Fig. 2, not shown), or a tuned aerial circuit is coupled to two aperiodic input circuits one associated with each detecting-valve. One detecting-valve V2 operates by grid rectification or on the upper bend of its characteristic curve, while the other V1 operates on the lower bend. Specifications 176,401 and 310,903 (Class 39 (i), Electric lamps &c.), are referred to.
