Abstract

251,374. Cleghorn, C. A. Feb. 11, 1925. Thermionic amplifiers and detectors. - Comprises a receiving system employing resistance coupling, in which two or more valves arranged in series function as dual amplifiers. In the arrangement shown the valves V1, V2 are used as dual amplifiers and V3 as a rectifier. The grid of the second valve V2 is connected to the plate of the first valve V1 through a condenser C1 of suitable valve for low as well as high frequencies, a grid leak r being provided. The coupling resistance R may be 80,000 or 100,000 ohms, and the lead l may be connected to the plate, as shown, or to a point in the resistance R separated from the plate by a resistance varying from 1500 to 2500 ohms. The valve V2 is coupled to the rectifier V3 through a transformer P<1>, S' and the plate circuit of the rectifier includes the primary P2 of a low-frequency transformer whereby the audio-frequency output from the valve V3 is fed back into the aerial circuit. The coupling resistance R may be of the carbon type but is preferably of wire wound non-inductively in several sections having opposed directions of winding.
