Jib cranes. - Relates to level-luffing cranes in which the load rope passes directly from the jib-head to a compensating pulley 15 carried by a pivoted lever 14 connected with the jib. A counterweight for balancing the jib is carried by the lever 14 without any other support', the parts being so arranged that the movement of the lever 14 effects both balancing and level luffing, and at the centre of the range of movement, the lever 14 is perpendicular to the line of rope from the hoisting drum 17 to the compensating pulley. This arrangement ensures the minimum change of direction of the rope leading from the drum during luffing. The Specification describes the method of determining graphically the position of the counterweight 15 upon the lever. The lever turns in the same sense as the jib with the counterweight moving in the opposite direction to the jib-head.
