Abstract

266,448. Marks, E. C. R., (Motor Terminals Co.). Nov. 24, 1925. Vehicles with removable bodies.-Relates to a system of transporting freight loaded in containers which can be transferred between motor vehicles and railway wagons. A number of such containers 12 placed side by side are supported upon a tray 25, 26 and transferred to the vehicle as one unit. The containers are held in position by the end and side walls 14 of the tray, and the walls are high enough to prevent opening of the doors 13 during transit. The containers are loeked together near the top by levers 19 engaging pins 18. The containers and the tray are provided with eyes 16, 31 for attachment to hoisting chains. One loaded tray is carried upon a motor lorry, or two upon a railway wagon, the trays being held in position by corner pieces upon the vehicles. The doors 13 may be at one or more sides of the containers.
