Supports for articles of freight. - A railway wagon particularly adapted for the transport of motor and like vehicles is provided with two or more decks of which the upper deck or decks are pivotally mounted on the wagon sides so as to be folded back when not required to carry vehicles and therebv to allow the wagon to be used for general goods. In the construction shown only one upper deck is provided, comprising on each side of the wagon a number of pivoted flaps 4, which are supported in their operative position either by hinged brackets 5 or by the horizontal parts of inverted T-members extending transversely across the wagon. Means are provided for preventing movement of the vehicles during transport, and, in the case of saloon cars, the wheels are preferably removed to diminish the height, of the cars. In one arrangement, Figs. 2 and 6, the car axles are adapted to rest in recesses in longitudinal adjustable blocks 10, which are provided with axle clamping plates 11 having closed transverse slots 15 and open-ended transverse slots 14 engageable by securing bolts 12, the construction allowing the clamping plates to swivel about the bolts that pass through the closed slots 15. In another arrangement, Fig. 5, the decks are provided with sunk wheel seats 16, and turn-buckle securing devices 17 having hook ends engage the axles of the cars.
