Abstract

Vehicles with removable bodies; doors, wagon; sides.-In a railway freight wagon, particularly of the type in which the goods are transported in a number of interchangeable containers, the side walls of the wagons are constituted by a number of independently movable sections or doors 16 having means for holding them in the closed position which automatically come into effect as the sections are closed. In the construction shown, each section 16 is fitted at its lower corners with trunnions 19 engaging elongated bearing slots 12 in body brackets 11, and near its upper corners with latches or projections 22 adapted to coact with open-ended slots 14 in keeper plates 13, so that the section 16, when brought to its closing position, drops by gravity bringing the latches 22 into retaining engagement with the bottoms of the slots 14. The brackets 11 and plates 13 are attached to angle-bars or posts 8 secured to the underframe 5 and to transverse partitions 6 dividing the wagon into a series of compartments, for which the sections 16 serve as doors and which are designed to receive the separate containers. To facilitate lifting of the sections 16 in opening the same levers 23 are pivoted thereto at 24 and at their ends bear upon fulcrum pieces or stops 15 on the posts 8. When swung down to an horizontal position as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, the section 16 serves as a bridge between the wagon floor 10 and station platform 20, and hooks 29 engaging slots 28 in the section may hold the latter firmly against movement. The sections may be fitted additionally with ordinary locking-bolts 26. Specification 190,008 is referred to.
