Abstract

Vehicle fittings and attachments. - For facilitating the handling of removable bodies which are transferred from a tractor to a tender vehicle or vice versa, each vehicle, as shown, is provided with a pivoted guiding track b<3> having at one or both ends means for automatically aligning and bridging the tracks, and the truck or removable body is provided with depending guide-pins d' engaging the tracks. The truck is carried on three pairs of wheels, the centre pair being larger than the outer pair and in this case the wheel tracks are raised at their ends or depressed at their centres to prevent rocking of the truck in its final position. The guide tracks each comprise two angle-iron members b<1>, b<2> and the aligning- means comprise plates g at their ends, Fig. 16, pivoted on horizontal bolts g<7> and vertical bolts g<4>, and having elongated holes g<12> and other holes g<10>, the former permitting them to be attached to longitudinally adjustable plates g<14> and the latter permitting them, when not in use, to be carried by brackets e<11>. The truck is centred as it approaches its final position by a centring-device c. Levers j<1>, Figs. 22 and 23, normally held in a raised position by spring-operated cams j<4>, j<14>, allow the wheels of the truck to pass on to the tender vehicle, but prevent their return, and are provided with recesses j<3> which maintain a further centering effect on the truck. The truck wheels run on plates a<2>, and flaps h pivoted on the tractor plates are brought into engagement with the plates on the tender-vehicle by ramps k, as the vehicles approach each other. The flaps may be retained in their up or down positions by notched levers h<7>. The truck is locked on the tractor by the pivoted hook e<3>, Fig. 17, the wheels being then against the stop a<18>. Vertical oscillation of the truck is prevented by members d<8> and f secured to the truck and tractor respectively.
