[Classes 103 (iv) and 108 (i)] A vehicle such as a railway car having a load-carrying platform for demountable bodies is provided with transverse guiding members for the demountable bodies and with positioning members for preventing movement of the bodies, the positioning members being movable upwardly to coact with the sides of the bodies. Fig. 2 shows a railway vehicle C upon which is mounted a container B arranged longitudinally and a short container or tank B<1> arranged transversely together with space for a further container. The longitudinal edges of the vehicle C are provided with recesses formed of two angle irons 21 within which are pivoted positioning members 10 which when upright are adapted to prevent the containers moving either laterally or longitudinally by engagement with the sills and projections b or b<1> of the containers. The members 10 are of the shape shown and are each pivoted about a spindle 20 and provided with a pair of links 30 pivoted at 31 to the members and connected at their other ends by a rod 32 to form a strut. Hookshaped members 40 are pivoted on the spindles 20 and are adapted to engage the rods 32 when the member 10 is upright, the engaging of the hook and the locking of it by a shoe 50 being performed automatically when the member 10 is raised. Recesses 19 or shoulders are provided on the members 10 which may be engaged by projections on the containers to prevent vertical movement. Skid channels 70 are provided on the vehicle and are engageable by skids 60 on the containers. The positioning members may be provided on a motor vehicle.
