[Class 103 (iv)] In a railway wagon of the kind equipped with removable containers for the transport of sheet steel or like heavy loads, each container comprises a comparatively shallow base 10 and a top 50, the latter being fitted with pivoted hoisting hooks 60 which can either be engaged, as shown in Fig. 3, with hooks 65 on the base 10 whereby the entire container may be hoisted, or can be swung round till free from the hooks 65, in which case the top can be hoisted independently. To facilitate loading, the containers are provided with hinged tail gates 12, Fig. 11. When placed in position the top 50 is supported by the engagement of Z- section bars 58, Fig. 9, at the lower edges of the top with similar sectioned members 30, 31 on the walls 11 and tail gate 12 of the base 10. In order to prevent displacement of the containers during transit, the base of the containers and the wagon floor may be provided either with co-operating sockets and studs, or with co-operating corrugated surfaces 20, a<1>, Fig. 9, which prevent longitudinal displacement, while the surfaces a<1> also abut against angles 15 to prevent transverse displacement.
