Thermionic amplifiers. -To eliminate inherent reaction in a high frequency amplifier, the ratio of the grid-filament capacity to the sum of the grid-filament and the grid-plate capacity is made equal to the ratio of the mutual inductance between coils 5, 7 to the self inductance of the coil 5. Fig. 1 shows an input circuit 4, T, connected to the grid 2 and through coil 7 and condenser 8 to the plate 1. The output inductance 5 is connected through the high tension battery to the filament 3, and a direct current path between the grid and filament is provided through a choke or resistance 13. A balance may be obtained by adjustment of condenser 10 in parallel with the grid-plate capacity, or by varying the coupling between coils 5, 7 to vary the mutual inductance. In a modification, Fig. 3, an additional coil 14 is provided so as to obtain a direct current path between the filament and grid; and in a further modification the coil 5 is replaced by a choke so. that the output is through coil 14.
