Abstract

265,354. Peters, J. A. Jan. 5, 1926. Worm pumps. - In a screw pump 2 for delivering oil supplied by gravity through a pipe 4 to an internal-combustion engine, a spring- pressed piston valve 6 arranged in the outlet end of the pump cylinder 3 or in a cylinder connected thereto controls the outlet passage 5, the strength of the spring 10 being such that, when the pump is working, the pressure of the oil moves the valve 6 to uncover the passage 5, but, when the pump stops, the spring overcomes the pressure due to the head of oil in the supply pipe 4 and causes the valve to close the passage 5. A rod 7 attached to the valve 6 projects through a gland 8 to serve as an indicator. A regulating valve 12 arranged in the passage 5 may be interconnected with the engine throttle valve.
