Abstract
265,244. Salerni, P. M. July 30, 1925. Razors of the kind having a thick-backed or wedge-section blade a have the handle pivoted at or near the back edge of the blade to allow it to be turned towards either face of the blade to facilitate stropping &c. The handle is shown as having a tubular part b which may contain grease or oil slidably mounted on a member b<2> secured to a squared portion of a shaft a<2> passing through the blade. Member b is urged towards the blade a spring b<3>, and when its end bears against the back of the blade, the blade is resiliently held in central position in line with the handle, Figs. 4, 5. When the blade is turned through approximately a right angle, member b bears against a face of the blade and holds it in shaving position. A guard c may be provided, pivotally mounted on the blade at c', and acted on by a spring-pressed ball d which tends to hold the guard centrally with respect to the blade edge. With the blade substantially in line with the handle for stropping &c., the guard is free to take this central position, Fig. 5, but with the blade in shaving position a pin c<3> on the guard engages a shoulder a<3> formed on the end of shaft a<2> and holds the guard displaced to a suitable shaving position, Fig. 6. The end of the member b is inclined so that the guard is displaced different amounts according to the side to which the blade is turned, to vary the closeness of shave. The end of member b may be shaped to give a number of different angular adjustments by rotating it on member b<2> to one or other of a corresponding number of positions. Modifications are described in which the shoulder a<3> is replaced by suitably formed recesses &c. engaged by a pin on the guard, and in which the ball d is also replaced by a recess in the blade engaged by a pin on the guard. The stropping &c. is effected by hand, pressure being applied by a finger as indicated in Fig. 3.
