To all "lo/10m it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD LEVY, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of London, England, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Scissors, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention hasreference to improvements in or relating to scissors, and consists in a shape and configuration of blades of the type wherein two keen cutting edges are employed. According to the present inven tion, the two keen cutting edges of each blade are formed inbevel fashion tangential from a half-round milled outer surface to a flat undersurface, so that in addition to the advantages of a double-edged blade, the scissors blades, when closed together, present an elliptical section of nearly round rod with roughened surface for use as a butchers steel. i
In addition to the foregoing, one or a number of useful articles may beembodied in the construction of the scissors as hereinafter described to constitute an assembly or combinationof useful articles, such as a knife-sharpener, can-opener, glass-cutter, screw-driver, and cork-screw, the can-opener being an adaption of the knownconstruo tion with a cranked piercing pivot and cutter slidable in a T or other slot. When a glass-cutter is employed, it is found convenient to locate the same in or on a handle as before employed in combination scissors and glass-cutter. It is known that combination articles have included a can-opener of the foregoing construction with a foldable corkscrew, but when such articles are included in the present improvements in scissors, it is in accordance with the appended claims.
In the following description, assisted by the accompanying drawings, a practical embodiment of the said invention will be described, wherein an inclusion and arrangement of all the foregoing articles is exemplified; and in said drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of a detached blade member;

In Figs. 1, 2 and 6, a wheel 6 of steel very highly tempered and keenly edged is mounted on the loop 1% of the scissors, the wheel 6 having a rotary movement and serving as a glass-cutter.
In Figs. 8, 4t, 5 and 6 a can-opening construction is shown.. This feature includes a steel member about half an inch in length formed'integral with loop 15 and rounded to a point 8, this point 8. being used for piercing the center of cans and forming pivot. A T-shaped slot designated by the numerals 9 and 7 cut directly through the shaft 16 of the scissors runs from near the junction of the scissors to the loop 15 of the scissors and accommodates the co-acting member. 5 shows this device, which comprises a beveled-edged V-shaped cutter 10 with an oblong shank 11 and a stop 12, and
in fitting, the stop 12 and shank 11 are passed through the T-shaped slot 7 and moves freely along the slot 9 in the shaft 16 with the cutter 10 directly below the shaft 16. The adjustment of the cutter 10 may be effected by the thumb and fingerplaced upon the stop 12 and moved accordingly. The piercing point 8 must be pressed by the hand into the center of the can and re main inserted to give the cutter 10 the power to cut, the cutter after beingadjusted being pressed by the thumb into the can in the known manner. The blades of the scissors are then held together by the hand to cut the disk of the can to the right or left hand as required.
Fig. 7 shows a corkscrew 13 riveted and mounted to the shaft 17. The blades of the scissors may be fitted together by means or a bolt- 5 riveted over as shown.
It is obvious that the can-opener, glasscutter, and other details may be varied in position or shape.
I claim 1. A can-opening tool of the scissors type including a combination with the closed scissors members. the handle of one member carrying a pivoting point and having a longitudinally disposed slot with an enlargement at one end guarded by one handle member when the scissors are closed, and cutting element movable in said slot and releasable through the slot enlargement when the handles are separated.
2.- A can-opening tool of the scissors type including a combination with the closed scissors members, the handle of one member carrying pivoting point and having a substantially T-shaped slot therein, the tail portion of which is longitudinally disposed in the handle while the head portion thereof is guarded by the other handle memher when the scissors are closed and a cut ting clement movable in said slot and releasable from the head of the slot when the handles are separated.
