569,322. Sharpening razors. BROOKE, E. A. Oct. 28, 1943, No. 17849. [Class 60] [Also in Group XIV] A device for sharpening safety razor blades comprises a stropping and/or honing member slidably mounted on the razor frame so as to be movable parallel to and in contact with the edge or edges of the blade. As applied to a double-edged razor, the guard plate 3 has therein two slots 6, parallel to the edges of the blade 1 and extending from near one end of the guard into lugs 7 on the other end thereof, each slot having slidable therein a pin 8 with a head 9 at its outer end, and an arm 10 at its inner end, the arms having projections 11 adapted to slide along the toothed or untoothed edges 12 of the guard. One surface of each arm 10 has let thereinto a piece of leather or other sharpening-material 13, and one edge of the arm is bevelled at 14. In operation, the razor handle 5 is partially unscrewed and the pins 8, which normally lie in the lugs 7 with the arms 10 directed inwardly so as not to interfere with the normal use of the razor, are moved along the slots, the arms 10 being turned so that they enter, by their bevelled edges, between the guard and the blade 1, sharpening being performed by to-and-fro movement of the arms along the slots with the pieces 13 contacting the blade edges. The ends of the projections 11 may be curved and serrated ; the pins 8. may have extended heads to be gripped by the fingers for movement along the slots.
