Abstract
266,445. Kennedy, E. N. Nov. 24, 1925. Razors of the kind using a single-edged blade which can be stropped without removal from the holder, as, for example, in Specification 15230/07, 105,522, and 184,808 are provided with two such blades with independent supports so arranged that they can be held in juxtaposition back-to-back, Fig. 1, for shaving purposes, or separated, Fig. 4, to allow the blades to be stropped simultaneously in tandem. As described, the upper end of the handle 11 is halved, the part 13 being pivoted at 14 to the part 12. Each part 12, 13 carries a crossbar 15 integral with a toothed guard 16 of usual form, and upstanding lugs between which are pivoted spindles 20, 21 geared together by toothed wheels 23, 24 and respectively carrying the blade-holder 19 and a strop-engaging roller below which the strop 22 is passed as shown. The wheels 23, 24 reverse the blade when stropping in the usual way. The parts 12, 13 are secured in the separated or closed positions shown by a sliding member 28 on one part adapted to engage suitable grooves or projections on the other. Alternatively a leaf-spring catch or other means may be used. When in position for shaving, Fig. 1, the blade-holders are held against rotation with the blades 27 against the guards by a projection 26 on one member 15 engaging a toothed wheel, or an arm 25 carried thereby, on the other part. The blade holder 19 has a concave surface against which the blade 27 is clamped by a bar 33 pivoted to the holder at 34 so that it may be swung over the blade and its free end engaged under a catch 35. The blade has positioning notches 36, and apertures 37 to facilitate flexing the blade when clamping in place. Alternatively, the blades may be locked in position for shaving as described in Specification 184,808, the pivotal movement of the guards being effected by trip lugs on the two parts of the handle.
