Abstract

436,351. Safety razors. HANSON, K. C., Abington, High Pine Close, Weybridge, Surrey. March 13, 1935, No. 7819. [Class 30] Relates to razors of the kind comprising a permanent or semi-permanent blade which when in use is rigidly mounted on a handle with its cutting edge in a transverse position. According to the invention, the blade is mounted so that it can be located in the operative position or in a longitudinal plane passing through the handle, the blade being positively located against displacement by such forces as arise during stropping. In the form shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the wedge-shaped blade 1 is provided with crossing grooves 10, 11 and is pulled by a spring 8 acting on a stud 9 on the blade into engagement with the rounded surface of the handle 3, so that the blade is positively located parallel or transversely to the handle but may be moved from one position to the other by hand. The U-shaped guard 5 is pivoted at 12 to the blade, and may normally snap to and fro past the edge of the blade to positions determined by the ballended lever 16 located in recesses in the guard and blade. When, however, the blade is moved to the chain-line position, Fig. 4, a projection 17 on the guard enters a recess in the handle 3, and the guard is locked in a position in which it covers the edge of the blade to permit carrying. If the blade is inverted from the dotted position, the projection 17 is free and the guard may snap to and fro to permit stropping. In the form shown in Fig. 8, the blade 1 is mounted on bearing flanges 19 rotatable in the handle 3 and is squared at 18 to engage a spring-pressed plunger 20. The guard is springy and rotates on conical bearings 23, Fig. 11, entering recesses in the blade. The arm 5 of the guard is cranked at 17<a> to engage a recess 24 in the blade to limit the rocking of the guard. The end of the part 17<a> is squared to engage a straight recess 25 in the handle 3 to locate the guard in the position in which it protects the blade. In a further form, the rocking movement of the guard is limited by pins projecting from the side of the blade.
