One feature of my invention lies in providing means for locating and adjusting a blade upon the seat, said means including a member which cooperates with a midportion of the blade. More particularly, it is a feature to provide a member, such as a pin, which extends right through the blade, as for example, through a suitably prepared aperture in the blade.

In one form of my invention, the member ref erred to is adjustable and cooperates with a midportion of the blade for adjusting the latter with respect to the guard edge. I also prefer to provide a spring element for engaging with the rear portion of the blade for advancing the latter against the blade stops and thereby properly loeating the cutting edge with respect to the guard edge. A cover 13 is hinged to the blade seat 11 at the pivot points 14 arranged on opposite sides of the guard edge 12. The cover 13 is adapted to swing from the position of Figure 2, wherein the blade seat is accessible and uncovered, to the position of Figure 1, wherein the blade seat is covered and the blade thereby enclosed. For the purpose of having the cover snap into closed position and be retained in such position, I provide a spring catch 15 or its equivalent along the free longitudinal edge of the cover 13.

In the embodiment illustrated, the cover is hinged so as to swing forwardly over the guard l2 when it is opened; but it will be obvious that my invention is not limited to a construction of this character, it being perfectly satisfactory to associate the cover in any other suitable manner with the blade seat 11.

It will be readily understood that a blade applied to the seat 11 will be in proper position for use when its forward or cutting edge abut-S against these stops A bar or rod 17 is rotatably mounted in the handle 10, longitudinal movement thereof being prevented by a set screw 18 or the like which engages a circumferential groove 19 in the rod 17. The latter is provided with a knurled knob 20 or the like suitably shaped and positioned to be accessible to the user and manipulable thereby without being objectionably in the way.

The upper portion of the rod 17 is positioned in a suitable bore extending through the seat portion 11; and the extreme portion 21 of the rod 17 is of reduced cross-section and is eccentrically arranged as shown most clearly in Figure 2. The portion 21 projects upwardly through the seat 1l.

In Figure 3,1,have illustrated a blade which is typical of those most suitable for employment withV the holderV illustrated. Although I have shown a blade having a U -shaped reinforcing portion 22 and a single cutting edge 23 arranged along the opposite longitudinal edge, nevertheless it Will be understood that a double-edged blade may be employed with my type of holder with equal facility. 'Ihe blade shown is provided with an aperture 24 through a medial portion thereof, the aperture shown being elongated in thev nature of a slot.

A spring25, in association with the rear edge of the cover 13, isdesigned t-o bear against spaced portions of the reinforcement 22 so as to assure proper centering and advancement of the blade upon theseat and with respect to the guardnedge 12' yWhen the deviceis used, the blade such as that shown in Figure 3 is applied tov the seat 11 so that the pin 21 will project upwardly through the slot or aperture 2,4.k This will serve to initially orpreliminarily secure the blade to the seat in a temporary manner andin approximately correct position. Thereupon, Vthe cover .13 is closed,vand the spring 25, as well as manipulation of the handle 20, will position the blade forwardly and properly against the stops 16.

Having thus described my invention and illustrated its use, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. A safety razor comprising a blade seat provided with a guard edge and front stops, a cover clamping member pivoted thereto for clamping the blade upon the seat, means carried by the cover clamping member for automatically advancing the blade to bring the shaving edge against the front stops as the cover is brought into blade clamping relation and shiftable means for limiting the advancement of the blade so as to maintain the shaving edge at any predetermined position away from the front stops.

2. A safety razor comprising a blade seat provided with a guard edge and front stops, a cover clamping member pivoted thereto for clamping the blade upon the seat, spring means carried by the cover clamping member for automatically advancing the blade to bring the shaving edge against the front stops as the cover is brought into blade clamping relation and movable means which may be adjusted to limit the advancement of the blade by the spring means and maintain the shaving edge at any predetermined position away from the front stops.

3. A razor assembly comprising a blade seat with cut-away portions to provide .an opening therethrough, and with a medial opening, a guard edge on said seat, blade stops at opposite ends of said guard edge, a cover pivoted to said seat, a spring vcarried by the inside of said cover, a hollow. handle, a rotatable rod extending upwardly through the handle and through the opening in said blade seat, said rod having an attenuated eccentric upperk end; and a single-edged blade having a slot in its midportion but otherwise unperforated, saidblade being adapted to be applied to said seat with said slot engaged over said attenuated upper end of said rod; whereby rotation of said rodabout its axis will adjust said blade toward and away from said blade stops, and whereby closing of the cover will cause said spring to bear against the rear edge of said blade to hold the latter forwardly against said stops.
