Abstract

264,696. Robinson & Co., Ltd., F., and Robinson, F. G. April 14, 1926. Opening by tearing.-In tins of the type wherein the flange of the lid is formed with a weakening groove 4 and the edge of the lid is soldered to the tin, a tongue or tag 5 is provided on the flange of the lid below the weakening groove to facilitate opening. The lower edge of the flange 3 is soldered to the bead 7 of the tin, and solder may also be applied round the recess in the flange formed by the cutting out of the tag and also to a portion of the underside of the tag to effect hermetic sealing. In a modification the end of the tag projects downwardly below the beading 7, the non-projecting portion of the tag being formed by a weakening line across the lower part of the flange 3. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 4486/92, 16457/95, and 17992/04.
