510,776. Preserve tins. HAUSTRUP, N. J. Dec. 19, 1938, Nos. 36955 and 36956. Convention dates, July 4, and Dec. 13. [Class 66] The weakening line 5 in the cover 4 of a preserve tin is formed with an inwardly-directed bight 7, the metal enclosed by which bight is adapted to be pressed down to afford an opening enabling the corner portion or tongue 6 of the weakened area to be engaged by the prongs 3, 8, of the opening key so that this part can be prised up by the key ready for the commencement of the rolling-up operation. Fig. 6 shows a modified form of key the part 14 of which serves to effect the initial rupture when the key is levered inwardly about the edge 16, the part 13 acting as a stop to limit the degree of depression of the metal of the bight 7.
