Abstract

503,725. Cans &c. FABRICE, E. H. Aug. 16, 1938, No. 24153. [Class 66] The enlarged lower part of the rim of the cover of a can or like receptacle, comprises an inset section 5, the upper edge of which is defined by a shear cut 7 extending part way through the metal, which section is of smaller diameter than a bead 2 projecting from the body part and affords a hermetic seal therewith when the cover is forced on to the can. A scoring groove 12 leads from the shear cut to a slot 10 defining a tongue 11 which can be raised to tear away from the lid the sections 5 and 6 to open the can, leaving the uppermost part 4 which affords a friction re-closure with the bead 2.
