Abstract

435,802. Lever-lid cans. BENNETT, H. J., 6, Melgund Road, Highbury, London. Feb. 28, 1934, Nos. 6520 and 14049. [Classes 66 and 125 (iii)] The seamed-on mouth-ring of a lever-lid can is carried down in contact with the inner wall for the depth of the seam, stepped inwardly at 5 to form a seat for the stepped lid 8, and finally continued downwardly at 6 parallel to the wall, the lower edge being disposed in contact with or nearly in contact with the wall. Instead of being outwardly curled as shown at 7, the edge may be flared towards an indentation 17, Fig. 2, in the can wall or the indentation may be formed of sufficient depth to meet the part 6 of the ring, the edge in such case being left depending vertically. A packing ring may be disposed between the steps of the lid and mouth-ring, and a sealing ring or capsule 13 with a tearing tab 14 may be secured over the lid.
