Abstract

451,222. Vacuum closures for tins &c. BARRINGER, WALLIS, & MANNERS, Ltd., and MANNERS, R., Mansfield, Notting- hamshire. Jan. 28, 1935, No. 2754. [Class 125 (iii)] In a vacuum-closed tin or like container in which the lid is hinged, the hinge being located wholly to the outside of the sealed compartment, the hinge socket extends through an aperture in the flange of the lid and embraces an integral part of the flange which serves as the hinge pin. The tin comprises a body 10, Fig. 4, with a beaded edge 13 and a flanged lid 11 with a bead 15 and recess 16 holding a packing-ring 17. The hinge sockets 22 are formed on a strip of metal 21 soldered &c. to the side of the tin. The sockets pass through a hole 23 in the lid flange. The hinge sockets may be integral extensions of the body, if the top edge is turned outward and flattened, or the metal strip may be trapped between the flattened portions. A part 122 of the hinge strip between the sockets may be provided to prevent loose movement of the hinge pin 15 when the lid is open. The packing ring is provided with a tab extending through a slot in the lid flange to facilitate the destruction of the vacuum to open the lid.
